FAQ/Rules

FAQ

What's the story behind this game? This is a game focusing on the drama and turmoil of the first war with Voldemort. It is not an AU game. We are hoping to make the game as canon as possible.

I just LOVE playing _______!!! I'm going to play them here, too! Okay, so that isn't a question-- but there is one important rule about applying at Breaking Ties. We ask that you DO NOT apply for a character that you have played before. While we may not know everyone applying very well, if we are told that you have played someone before (i.e., holding Lily when you have played her before), then we are not going to approve your application. So many players have never had a chance to play particular characters, and we think that by asking everyone to play someone brand new, that the game will be fresh and as new-feeling as MWPP can be, as well as challenging ourselves as players.

Can I apply for someone else in the class of 1978 that doesn't have a next to their name? Yes -- But not in the Order or in the Death Eaters. Considering that there are canonly five Death Eaters and Order members from 1978 (which is 1/4 of that graduating class), we have decided to put at cap on those. However - we encourage players to apply for characters that are being considered for recruitment, to make our recruitment plot all the more interesting.

If I play a Supporter, can they be recruited? Technically, yes. But right now, the game focus is on the recruitment of the young people canonically in the Order and the Death Eaters. If plot demands new recruits later on, those with needed skills may be recruited, but it may be a difficult and lengthy process.

How many characters can I play? Before the game begins, players can hold two characters. Until the first activity check, that will be the cap. The eventual limit will be four characters per person.

Can I play two Order characters? Two Death Eaters? What are the rules on categories? At the beginning of the game, players cannot have two characters in the Death Eater column, or two characters in the Order column. It is not until the fourth character that we will allow, on a case-by-case basis, to allow players to have two characters in the Death Eater or the Order column.

Why do you want me to give a concept for my hold? There is nothing worse than completing an application you are proud of, and then being told that the game is glutted on Unspeakables, or that there isn't room for another herbologist in the Order. We ask you to give us a basic concept so that we can help YOU. Especially in the early holding stage, there is no other way to know if we would be immediately overwhelmed by a particular concept before applications start coming on. For questions about concepts that are needed, take a look at our "Wanted/Don't Want" page. It will continue to grow as the game does.

I want to apply for [ random character here ] but they are not on your list. Can I? The answer is 99% likely -- Yes. There is no way to add enough people to the cast list to go over all the possibilities. We do ask that, excepting Muggleborns, all last names are canon. We prefer that you try to find some link to canon (Anthony Goldstein's maternal aunt, Jimmy Peake's father, etc), but are willing to take characters that aren't.

Why don't you have a Former Death Eaters page like you do for the Order? You don't leave the Death Eaters, they leave you. Dead.

RULES

ACTIVITY

Characters must do at least two pieces of activity per month. Activity that counts includes: Journal entries (200 words or 10 sentences each) or logs (at least 3 paragraph long tags).

If you are going to be on hiatus, please reply to the hiatus post. Notices in the OOC community do not count as hiatus posts!

There will be a monthly activity check. We may also do occasional presence checks. If you do not reply to the activity checks and have not replied to the hiatus post, you will be dropped without warning.

EVERYTHING ELSE

No god-modding or meta-gaming. This means, let players control their own characters. Additionally, do not use OOC knowledge ICly.

ICA = ICC. That means, In Character Actions result in In Character Consequences. So, your Order member wants to start spilling secrets? They should remember what happened to Bernie Jorkins, a suspected leak. He was obliviated and no longer remembers his year with the Order. Death Eaters won't be so kind to leaks. And if your character mouths off at dangerous people, don't be surprised when the Death Eaters want to come knocking. The last thing we want to do is have to kill off a character you want to keep around, so please be willing to work with us, your mods, in making the consequences of your character's actions realistic and true to the atmosphere of the game.

COMMUNICATE. We might all be a little shy at some point, but neglecting to contact people and make sure everyone is on the same page is the quickest way to drama. IM people instead of assuming, be willing to talk about your problems with others, and talk to the mods if you are having problems.

Be willing to work through issues with players. Everyone has problems in every game. But in order to keep the game drama free -- again, COMMUNICATE. If you don't feel comfortable talking to the players involved, talk to a mod. We will address the situation fairly. Drama mongering of any type is not going to be tolerated.

Major plots like pregnancies, deaths, and marriages should be cleared with the mods so that they can be spread out. We are open to all of these sorts of plots. But we may want you to wait a week or so before you have your character die because we know of another character that is going to die, or we don't want to have four weddings in November or five other babies due the same week Neville and Harry are. It's in everyone's best interest that plot be happily spread around for all!

Remember, this is a game. We are here for fun! It's important, as an RPer, to focus on what you love about a game instead of the small imperfections. Be positive and kind to your fellow players! RPing is a singularly awesome chance to get to show off our creative muscles, and everyone is going to come to the journals with different strengths and focuses. Let's enjoy the beauty of that, instead of wanting things to be done exactly our own way.
